spring in the hunter valley: why it's our favourite time of the year

spring in the hunter valley: why it's our favourite time of the year

longer days, warmer weather and a very good excuse to visit wine country.

there's something about spring in the hunter valley.

the days start getting longer, the vineyards begin turning green, and suddenly, spending an entire afternoon outside with a glass of wine sounds like a very reasonable plan.

not that we needed much convincing.

while the hunter valley is beautiful all year round, spring brings a little extra magic to wine country. it's the perfect time to escape the city, catch up with friends and discover a few new favourite wineries.

and if you're wondering where to start, we've got a few ideas.

the vineyards are coming back to life

one of our favourite things about spring is watching the vineyards wake up after winter.

after months of bare vines, the first signs of budburst begin to appear, and before you know it, the hunter valley is looking green again.

it's an exciting time for our winemaker, richard, as another growing season gets underway.

for visitors, it means beautiful vineyard views, fresh spring air and the perfect backdrop for an afternoon in wine country.

at john wallace wines, our cellar door overlooks the vines, so you can enjoy a glass of wine while watching the season unfold.

it's officially outdoor wine weather

you know those afternoons when you head out for one glass of wine and somehow end up staying for three hours?

that's spring in the hunter valley.

the weather is warming up, but we're not quite into the full heat of summer, making it a lovely time to settle in outside.

at john wallace wines, there's no need to rush your visit.

find a spot on the deck, grab a table overlooking the vines or settle in on the grass with your favourite people.

order a glass or bottle of wine, add some cheese to the equation and enjoy doing absolutely nothing for a little while.

sometimes, that's exactly what a weekend needs.

it's time to bring out the spring wines

as the weather warms up, our wine preference tend to change a little.

while we'll never say no to a good shiraz, spring has us reaching for crisp whites, refreshing rosé and a little more sparkling.

and luckily, we've got a few wines that fir the brief perfectly.

'tilba' rosé

our rosé is practically made for afternoons in the sun.

fresh, vibrant and very easy to enjoy, it's the kinds of wine that belongs at long lunches, afternoon catch-ups and spontaneous weekend plans.

'maggie' white

looking for something fresh and approachable?

our 'maggie' white is a lovely addition to your spring wine rotation, whether you're hosting friends or simply enjoying a glass after work.

sparkling 'l'amore'

because sometimes you don't need a special occasion to open something sparkling.

a sunny saturday afternoon in hunter valley seems like a perfectly good reason to us.

explore our hunter valley wine collection

discover a new favourite cellar door

spring is a great excuse to explore some of the smaller, family-owned wineries scattered throughout the hunter valley.

and while the region has plenty of well-known names, sometimes the best experiences come from discovering somewhere you haven't visited before.

that's exactly what we love about john wallace wines.

we're a small, family-owned winery, with richard making the wines and beth helping bring the cellar door experience to life.

there's no need to know everything about wine before you visit.

whether you're a seasoned wine lover or simply enjoy a good glass, our tastings are relaxed, informative and designed to help you discover something you genuinely enjoy drinking.

and there's a good chance you'll meet tilly along the way.

planning a girls' weekend? a date day? a family outing? or maybe you're just looking for an excuse to get out of the house?

whatever brings you to the hunter valley this spring we'd love to see you.
