winter called … your red wine is waiting
there are two kinds of people in winter. those who brave the cold … and those who immediately light the fire, pull out the cheeseboard and pour a generous glass of red.
if you’re reading this, we’re guessing you’re the second kind.
winter in the hunter valley is one of our favourite times of year. the mornings are crisp, the vines are tucked in for the season, the crowds slow down and suddenly every excuse to open a bottle feels completely justified.
and if you’re wondering which bottle deserves a spot on your table, we’d like to introduce you to two of our winter favourites.
first up, ‘juju’
don’t let the bright personality fool you.
our ‘juju’ shiraz nouveau might be lighter than your traditional winter red, but that’s exactly what makes it so easy to love. It’s juicy, vibrant and ridiculously drinkable, the kinds of wine that somehow disappears faster than you’d planned.
it’s the bottle for friday night pizza, lazy sunday lunches, backyard fire pits and those ‘we’ll just have one glass’ evenings that somehow turn into finishing the bottle.
pair it with wood-fried pizza, a loaded cheeseboard, mushroom risotto, slow-cooked lamb and good friends who don’t judge you for opening the second bottle.
then there’s the ‘b.d.p’
if ‘juju’ is the life of the party, ‘b.p.d’ shiraz is the one that arrives in a nice coat, brings the good cheese and somehow always has excellent stories.
this is everything you want from a hunter valley winter red.
rich dark fruit. beautiful spice. silky tannins. enough depth to make you pause after the first sip and quietly think, ‘yep, that’s the one’.
it’s made for long dinners, roast lamb, slow-cooked beef cheeks and those nights where the fire is still going well after dessert.
can’t decide?
easy, taste both! our cellar door in pokolbin is one of our favorite places to spend a winter afternoon. for $15 you’ll enjoy a guided tasting with a complimentary cheese plate, and afterwards you’re welcome to grab, find a spot by the fire and stay a little longer.
no one has ever regretted extending a wine tasting at john wallace wines.
if you’re not making it to the hunter valley just yet, don’t panic.
both wines are available online, ready to be delivered straight to your door.
so throw another log on the fire, invite your favourite people over (or don’t, more wine for you), and let winter do what it does best.
because honestly … red wine season might just be our favourite season.
